random sketches.. of things that are around me

one of my student was preparing for a coursework..
and while advising her..
i made this sketch of an image that she has of a marine creature.. Crab.
can't rem the name of this crab.. sure looks like spider.

this was done with a black 0.5 Pilot G2 pen... in about 20 mins.

as the pages go by... you see this green apple logo at the bottom right corner..
this sketch bk isn't bought or anything..
it was a free gift for one of those roadside promos..

seeing it lying on the desk collecting dust...
why not fill the pages up?

as i always mention to my students..
there isn't a need for one to purchase expensive materials...
unless you are preparing for an exhibition, ready to sell your work..
else it's just acting like a diary..

in fact my sketching journal IS a diary.
it is a VISUAL DIARY.
instead of writing words down..
i draw objects in and even though there aren't any text..
by looking at these images...
i know exactly what was happening then.
it's even clearer and faster than writing it down! (personally i feel so)

a quick illustration as i was bored waiting for my friends at a local cafe..
i enjoy working with ball point pens too!

not sure if anyone will agree with me..
but i kinda like the effect that a pen gives.. the 'wobbly' lines.. cartoonish yet real feel to it..
sometimes my own drawings remind me of the Korean stationeries you see at ARTBOX..

or actually speaking of which, this particular Korean Stationery online shop has a pretty gd range.
bought black pens from there.. gave a couple to my students and left 1 for myself...
it's very smooth and very adorable (refering to the designs on it)
got some notebooks too.. considered cheap too!
they've got a very cute logo!!!!

see?? am i right???
hahah. anyone who knows of nice and cheap stationeries store can leave a comment too! i would like to know.. then can buy for my students :)

ok back to my stuff..

more drawings in my sketchbook...

drapery study.. first time done in pen.

my left foot wearing boot..
very random but i would think this is my favourite piece till now.. in pen of course.

tata. thats all for now..
yet to find time to scan more of my drawings..
next entry i will strive to put in my pencil drawings!!

till then!

sketches of singapore

just one year ago, i brought the whole sec1 cohort students for an outdoor drawing session at the esplanade. looking over the water, at the skyscrapers..

i can't help but to feel the urge to sit down with them and draw too.
the 4 drawings are what I came back with.
1 drawing per day.
each drawing took approx. 30-40 minutes...
couldn't really remember clearly as students were asking me questions time to time.

the first drawing shows the elegant Fullerton hotel..
and truth be told, even after years of training in the arts...
this was my first time drawing with a pen.
i was terrified. but together with my students, i try..
and im pleasantly surprised by myself.

the 2nd day i did brought another class there..
and also sat down to attempt a pen drawing after experiencing it the first time the day b4.

this was a building under construction.. i dont know whats this building called.
the last time i headed to the same area, it was completed already!

the third day..
growing to like drawing with pen...
although it is kinda scary to put down the first mark..
but once that's over, everything will be great.

im amazed at artists who does everything with pen.
gotta be real confident and have the ability to cover up mistakes. hahaha ;x

this drawing... nope its not the control tower you see at Changi..
this architectural structure is located near the Merlion..
yes it does looks like it can be rotated.. but no it cant.
:)

the last day of the programme...
i drew this with my students.
i drew this building that was on my right.. (i was seated at the outdoor amphi-theatre)..

alright this is a brief sum up of my outdoor sketches at Esplanade..
looking forward to plan more outdoor drawings..
with students or not.
